Question Taobao and Paipai in English?

What will happen if sites like taobao.com and paipai.com had their English translations? Will it make a significant difference in the internet world or will there be no change? Will eBay (global) be threatened?

Nope I don't think so. If ebay/eachnet was defeated in China it is because taobao and the like understood more the local market. I don't think they understand better the US/global market than ebay.

thats hard to say, from certain perspective understanding of the local market is essential to grab hold of the market, but any threat is a threat to the market share. especially taobao "owns" a large amount of sellers, these sellers range from indie, company to corporates within china. there is no doubt that china is the #1 common goods manufacturing country, and majority ebay sellers are selling goods that is built from china which are the "middle men", Imagine the bridge is completely build between chinese and english, there will be less need of the "middle man" hence ebay loses sellers and loses buyers though as i said before, the effect is unknown, and may lead to a situation that ebay is only trading localy, and superior quality goods since all the disqualified chinese goods are selling on through that bridge. for the moment that is exctly what taobao is trying to with the australia company partnership. but of course it faces many challenges. And im also working on this but from the opposite direction.

Well I'm currently in Sydney, Australia. anyone who interested at building the bridge can contact me. via these address

I definitely think ebay would lose a lot. They would probably go out of business if Americans found trustworthy Chinese sellers on paipai and taobao, cuz i speak to us retailers who hate dealing with US middle men but they have no choice because they can't trust Chinese sellers anywhere. But if we could trust them to send out our merchandises Ebay would go out of business if paipai and taobao went English.

Unfortunately for now and as far as I know, Taobao and Paipai are available only for people in mainland China. Ebay China on the other hand extends this service to HK as well, and in fact it is Ebay HK that those of us in mainland China would have to apply to, to be able to start our Ebay business.

If you can speak Chinese, you can try to arrange a deal with any of the sellers on these sites, however, if you can't then you might have to increase that list of "middle men". Watch out for star ratings on these sellers. Up until now I haven't had anyone cheat me over these sites, but it is good to always be careful!

Good Luck!

Default Buying from Taobao in the USA

Having lived in China as an expat for so long i got used to buying stuff for cheap off Taobao. I'm now back in the states and using a service called TabaoDirect.com to buy stuff off taobao. They help consolidate and shop for the items I want. They even have a warehouse in the USA that I can return stuff to them in case any of the items weren't what I was looking for. Great service. I suggest anyone oversees to try them out if they are interested in buying from China Taobao.

Hope that helps

Akses
